for Markham Theater Group’s Spring Production
“Two Roses and a Cat”
a scriptless re-telling of “Snow White and Rose Red” and “Puss-in-Boots”
OPEN AUDITIONS on SATURDAY, MARCH 2
from 10 am until noon at the Marshall Community Center
4133 Rectortown Road, Marshall VA (540) 422-8580
Actors aged 8-18 with or without previous experience are invited to join us at 10am to fill out application forms, have a quick photo taken, and discuss this exciting improvisation-based production. Please be prompt and prepared to stay for the entire two hours! After forms and info, we will have an improvisation session where we will play improv games and get to know each other. Parents may stay and watch, but will be asked to stay toward the back of the auditorium to allow the kids to handle things on their own. We’d like to see creative, expressive, well-mannered and co-operative actors who can contribute positively to the making of a play. Not everyone will be chosen to join the troupe, but we would like to include as many truly interested people as possible.
Rehearsals will be most Fridays from 4-5pm and Saturdays from 10am until noon, starting on Saturday, March 30th at the Marshall Community Center. Performance dates will be May 31 and June 1, with held-over dates June 7 and June 8th.
Only audition if you are available for rehearsals and performances, please.
The troupe will develop the plays through improvisation, without scripts. This is a challenging and exciting method of creating a play. Everyone in the troupe will be involved with creating and directing the show and everyone will have a chance to explore many theatrical roles.
Audition and participation are free of charge, but parents may be asked to help with some tasks and/or supplies as needed. Participants and their parents or guardians will be asked to sign an agreement of participation.
To RSVP or for further info call Bess Taylor at (540) 364-4638 or email her at [email protected]

Destination Imagination is a non-profit organization dedicating to challenging young people to become better at group interaction and problem solving through creative projects. This DI group of local students are all Markham Theater Group veterans that have chosen to try to raise money for St. Jude's, which specializes in finding cures for terminally ill children at no cost to the patient's families.
The performance will consist of five short improvisational plays based on well-known fairy tales, and presented for young children. Children will be invited on stage to help play parts in the plays, if they would like to do so. There are no lines to read or rehearse, it will all be made up on the spot. Please come and join in on the fun!
Admission is any donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The show will be held on Saturday, February 9th at 3pm in the large meeting room at the Marshall Community Center, 4133 Rectortown Rd, Marshall VA. For more information call MTG at (540) 364-4638, or Marshall Community Center at (540) 422-8580. SNOW DATE is FEB 23.

The Markham Theater Group is joining forces with the Marshall Community Center to form a new project: Marskham/Marshall Theater Group. We will hold classes and produce plays at the Marshall Community Center in Marshall, VA. We think this will give more people an opportunity to become involved, since the town of Marshall is central to northern Fauquier County. It will help us to access the county's fine resources and help the county to find grant money to improve MCC.
The Marshall Community Center has a very nice auditorium, classrooms and storage space we can use, plus it houses the Marshall Branch Library, which we think would be a great place to hang out before and after rehearsals for those participating, and for family members to wait in during rehearsals. They can read books and magazines, use the computers, and even hook up to the library's Wifi.
In the works right now are plans for our spring production of "Rabbit Hill" as well as our regular summer improvisational theater workshops. Keep an eye out here and at MCC for notices about try-outs and registration. We should have more info for you in February. Please check back!

Many thanks again to everyone who helped our "Secret Garden" performances go so well. The cast and crew worked hard, and we've been hearing wonderful things about the play.
MTG participated in the Marshall Christmas Parade on December 1, 2012 and got our second trophy! (See photo here.) This time we got second place in the Marching/Dance/Music category- I suspect because of our very enthusiastic singing! Thanks to Hartland Orchards for driving us in their 1948 truck, BB&T of Marshall for sponsoring us and to Anne Michael Greene of Fauquier Realty who gave us refreshments afterward.
We also received a Voluntary Service Award certificate from Fauquier County Parks and Recreation on December 5th in recognition of our good work on the shows we've put on at the Marshall Community Center this year.
Here's hoping we all have a lovely holiday season and a splendid new year!

Wow- wait until you see the new curtains at the Marshall Community Center! They are gorgeous! I added three photos from our preview of Scene 1 at the curtain dedication there on October 6th on our Secret Garden photos page. (You can tell them from our Old Schoolhouse photos because they are the ones with the fabulous blue curtain in the background.)
We had so much fun doing Scene 1 for the curtain dedication. The stage really feels much more theatrical with the curtains, which were purchased through a grant from the Loeb Foundation. Our hosts, the Marshall Community Center were very accomodating, and Skip Glascock's bluegrass band Cobbler Mountain Grass were terrific, and seeemed to be very impressed with our talented young playwright and players, commenting favorably about them between songs during their set! I was very proud of everyone. Thanks to the cast of Scene 1 for giving a great impression- they were all off script for this preview! And many thanks to the ever-helpful Paul Hicks and the parents and friends who helped load and unload the truck with us. You are the backbone of this volunteer theater group!

As part of the dedication of the new stage curtains at the Marshall Community Center, the Markham Theater Group will present a scene-in-the-working from our current play "The Secret Garden", which has just begun rehearsals. We will be in costume, but likely will have scripts in hand. This is a free event, so please come out and cheer us on!
The festivities will begin at 5pm with a dedication of the new patio bench, followed by refreshments, then the 6pm curtain dedication in the auditorium, the MTG preview scene, and a performance by Skip Glascock's bluegrass band. Admission for all this is free.
The Marshall Communuty Center is located in the Marshall Library building, 4133 Rectortown Road, Marshall VA. The phone number there is (540) 422-8580.

We are truly grateful to all the wonderful people who auditioned for our upcoming prduction of "The Secret Garden". As of this writing, everyone who has been cast in the show has been notified and has accepted his/her role in the play.
Please remember that not everyone who is a great actor gets into every show and that sometimes other factors such as height or scheduling conflicts may make us choose one player over another. We value everyone who volunteers time to be in a play and hope very much that you will come and try again next time!
If you were not chosen as a cast member but still want to help in other areas of the production such as crew, please drop us a line at [email protected] and let us know. We'd love to hear from you.
